i am going to look at a ford f250 4wheel drive 5.4 engine. it has a towing capacity of 7,100 pounds. i am going to haul a 3,000lb bumper pull trailer with 2 horse's and tack. it shoud be about 5,800 lbs loaded. it this the 5.4 engine big enough to haul this load adequately even though according to the owners manual it looks to have enough hauling capacity?

That should be sufficient.  Plenty of people haul that same load with much less of a pickup.  The 5.4L Ford would not be my first choice, but I am biased.

I think it's going to depend on the rear end. If it's 3:83 or higher you will probably be ok. You might find your self wanting a little more power in certain situations but over all ok.

I had a 03 F250 with a 5.4 in it. It did ok even with my 16ft 4horse stock loaded and my 28ft 3h. I got rid of it and went diesel because if I went to the mnts and had a steep climb it sounded like something was going to blow. It's an ok truck for flat land but not for mnts. With a 2 horse it would be ok anything bigger I would go diesel....JMO
