I'm in the market to buy a mini freight 2004 and newer.Where do you find a value book on these trucks to see if they are priced right...I have a 5 horse trailer with 12 foot lq about 22000 loaded do i need more than a 330 hp engine and what kind of things to avoid...Also what are high miles for these trucks, i know that is dependent on how the truck was maintained but is 250,000 miles a fair amount for one?? thanks for all input

There really is no book that will tell you about the hauler conversions. They can have many or few features, different powertrains, suspensions, beds and other options. Condition is a very big factor as far as value. 100,000 miles pulling a horse trailer or RV is going to be much easier on a truck than 100,000 miles hauling oilfield equipment, or pulling a backhoe around.

When looking at the horsepower, see what the engine size (displacement) is, and also the torque rating. Most of the medium duty truck engines that are 8 or 9 liter and 300 or 330 HP should work well. Watch the ads, go look at some trucks, and you'll get a pretty good idea of price vs value. By the way, look at the International medium duty trucks with the DT 530 or 570 engine. Nice haulers.

International's DT530 is an International engine. It's a very good engine, long life, wet sleeve design which makes an overhaul generally less expensive. 250,000 miles is getting to be a lot for most medium duty engines. The Cat 3126 or C7 is a good engine- but I'm not sure I'd give a lot for one with 250,000 miles on it. That's going to be expensive when you have to go into it.

I bought a 2007 fl sportchassis with 80k on it. I think I got a fair deal. bought it in august of 12. Spotless and very clean. gave 73k for it. has 330 mb engine. I tow for a living. Very seldom do I wish for more power. The allison will gear down a notch or I can gea it down to pull a big hill. If you get one you'll never go back to a one ton dually.

I have no regrets getting the sportchassis. It is what you like and can afford.
