Location: Texas | Just bought me a 4 horse trailer w/ 7' LQ (approx. 32' & 8000# empty), now I need to find a truck to pull it. Going to Colorado, need something that will pull it in the mountains. Should I go 3/4 or 1 ton? Diesel? Duelly? I will be getting 4x4 and extended/crew cab. Any help/ideas are appreciated!! Roy |

Location: Texas | I would get a 1 ton dually but a single rear wheel might be ok. Diesel would be the best. I'm guessing the floor length is about 24 feet? I would weigh the trailer if you haven't already..... I would think that it would be heavier than 8k. |

Roy I agree with greyhorse...except I would definitely get the duals and an engine brake... Well it'll definitely be heavier than 8k when its loaded...just out of curriosity...what model is it?? |

Location: La Crosse, WI - God's Country | I'd consider a diesel 3/4 ton long box or quad cab short box a minimum for that trailer (since I own this exact model, I can say this). In the mountains, I'd want a diesel as well - just me. Extra points for dually. That trailer is probably gross rated at either 13000 or 14000 lbs. - keep that in mind along with the potential pin weight you'll be facing under load. For example a 2004 Dodge QCSB with the diesel is rated at 13050. If you were to be pulled over and weighed with a full load, I'd bet that you'd be over... If you go that route, you might still need to add air bags or Timbrens. Just my opinion. LAXPatrick |

Location: North Carolina | I would look very closely at a turbo diesel dually. The mountains of CO are at 5 to 10 thousand feet. The performance drop with a normally aspirated engine is severe. The turbo makes up for the altitude. Dually is the only way I'd go because of the hitch weight and the stability. Opinions ... everybody has' em |
