We have a 2005 Chevy 1t dually,Duramax with around 112k miles, mostly highway, and about 1/4 of it as towing if that much.my husband doesn't drive it daily any more as he has a Tundra to go to work so we have parked it for the most part with occasional use.we have kept it well maintained.lately when we start it,it has died with the gas gauge showing empty but- it's not.He has to prime it then it starts and runs and the gauge shows accurate. Is there a vacuum that is being created or- something going on that causes it to lose prime and not able to get fuel until primed? I am afraid this thing is going to quit on us when we have a trailer hooked up.

Have you ever figured out what was the problem? Uncle mentioned almost the issue he encountered twice.

Diesel engines are sensitive to air entering the fuel system. If there's a small air leak in the fuel lines or connections, it can lead to fuel draining back into the tank when the engine is off, causing the system to lose prime. When you prime it, you're essentially purging the air from the system and allowing fuel to reach the engine.
