After getting a horrid neck ache from trying to sleep in the passenger seat of my 1997 F250 last weekend (my head was lolling back over the top of the bucket seat because I'm tall and the seat has no adjustable headrest), I'm fed up. I'm insisting that when we do buy the next truck, it has adjustable headrests. Heck, my in-laws' mini-van has a headrest that pulls up high enough to support my head, why the heck do neither of my trucks? Anyway, are any of you driving one ton pickups that have seats with adjustable head rests? If so, is it a Ford, Chevy, Dodge or GMC? Hubby thinks that possibly they don't exist in trucks.

Geesh, for $40-50 K, they could at least make the seats comfortable!

Is there an after market possibility to get decent seats?

Our 2001 Ford does.  It's an extended cab, XLT model with the 40/20/40 front seat.(I believe that's what they call it)  It has the flip down console in the center of it that can flip up for more seating.  Yup adjustable head rests, of course I find myself pulling them out all together if I'm drivin' that rig very far.  I HATE constantly hiting the back of my Resistol on them.  Guess I need to be taller.  Maybee a booster seat!!

My Dodge does (2004) - but I would never say that the seats are "comfortable". Granted, I'm a tough fit (6'8"), but I've yet to find a truly comfortable seat. Had a Caddy DTS rental car a couple of weeks ago. That thing had truly comfortable seats (with heated/cooled seats - I put seat heat in my truck, but cooled seats were pretty neat).

I really like the seats in my '04 Duramax. I have the LT package, leather seats, that adjust with the push of a button and are heated. They are very comfy. Our 2000 Silverado has cloth seats and they are very uncomfortable as far as back support.

I remember Mr. Truck saying once that the Chevy's LT seats were the most comfortable.

I don't have any problem with my '03 Silverado and I've the 650 miles a day day after day coast to coast stuff, though that was all driving with no attempts at napping.
It might depend more on the trim level that you get - less on the truck mfg generically.

Well, MANY years ago Citroen had THE best seats for distance travel, but that was a car (-:
Just way too far ahead of it's time.

I have a F250 and a Chev duramax, there is a great difference, the chev seats are much more comfortable for long trips. Never had a dodge so I cant comment

Headrests...

That adjustable head rest is more than a pain in the neck ...LOL ... NOT

In a severe rear end crash, a head rest that is too low or missing will break your neck.  In just a fender bender, it'll mean a sore neck.  I see lots of people driving  with head rests below the back of their head.  I wonder if they realize the danger they're in.

Now you know.

Hosspuller,

I do appreciate your concern, however, I'd rather have a broken neck than to have my Resistol touched or bent!  I know, I know, my priorities are all outa' wack.  P.S.  I don't wear my seatbelt either.

"priorities are all outa' wack.

You're aware and being a competent adult, you've made a choice as is your right.   I support your choice, don't agree with it but Hey! it's your neck

I like free choice instead of the "nanny" state.  I've got my own "bad" habits.  Seat belt laws are a crock too.  It would be better to enforce the driving laws that govern driving behavior.  Not limited to speed enforcement, but left lane hogging, crossing the gore, queue cutting, tailgating, etc.  These cause encounters, not accidents since they were choices.

Seat belt laws treat the results not the cause. (rant over)

When wife and I were shopping for a new truck we drove all three brands. Found a really good deal on a Dodge, and went and drove it. Liked the power, like the grab bars for getting in, generally like the truck. Test drove it and found that after 25-30 mintues we hated the seats. Flat seats that had no support and felt like rocks to us.

Went and drove the Ford, good set up and found that it had the power and everthing we wanted. Only problem was the noise. Seems that Ford did not put that much sound proofing in and the engine noise was load.

Drove the Chevy liked it as it had everthing that we wanted. Wondered about the tranny, allison was new to Chevy at the time. Did know that it was in large truck. Wondered about the engine new to chevy again found that the engine was one that had been around awhile. In general we thought it was more car like of the three.

We do not do off road so other factors do not play in as much like it would for some folks.

Then went and talked to trainer, he has a dodge. Asked him what he felt was a good truck for hauling and comfort. Guy makes several trips from WA to CA a year for shows. He said that even though he had the dodge, they usually took a chevy that someone else has because of comfort. That tipped the edge to the Chevy.

Now that was two years ago and things have changed in all of the line ups

I can speak for all 3 companies as far as the seats, engine and trannys in the newer models.

Dodge in my opinion have the best engine, the tranny is good but not as good as the Allision is but the Dodge seat are SORRY! Thank the good lord for aftermarket companies.

The GM by far has the best seats of the big 3, the best traany in the world and a so-so engine.

The FORDS interior is better than Dodge but not as nice and plush as the GM is. Engine is the bottom of the pack of the big 3 and the tranny is number 2 out of the above.

So in my opinion to have the perfect truck you would need to buy a truck with the Cummins engine, Allision transmission and the GM seats.

You could always get an FL80 with a laydown back seat...
