I'm trying to figure out what size trailer I can pull with this vehicle. We have 2 horses, 1200 lb TB cross and a 1300 lb WB. Would love to pull a gooseneck, but would be happy to pull a nice stable bumper pull. I've been told that the F150 5.4L does not have enough stopping power for a trailer w/ 2 large horses and that it would also have power problems on hills. Also potential problems w/transmission/suspension. Any comments/suggestions?

You have been told right! Most 1/2 ton truck are built for daily drivers, not tow trucks. However, denpending on the gear ratio and proper tow equipment it can be done.

A reciever hitch is a must, do not use the bumper!
3.55 would be the highest gear I would use it this truck.
Add a transmission cooler. (most any repair shop can do this)
And while towing do not use your OVERDRIVE!
