Does anyone know if there are known issues with the 2008 F450 6.4 L diesel trucks? Do they haul as well as they advertise? I'm hauling a 36Foot horse trailer that weighs 15500, empty. (heady LQ). It is too much for my F350.

I am also looking at an 05 C4500 which might haul better. It has the Duramax with an Allison transmission.

Low mileage on both vehicles and good warrenty.

Thanks

Check out www.powerstroke.org for loads of information about the 6.4 and all other Powerstrokes.

From what I have seen and heard they are having the same type issues with the DPF and emiss. control items just like Dodge is having.

My personal opinion I will not by another truck that has the DPF crap on it.
ie: 2007.5 and up DODGE with the 6.7L Cummins
2008 and up Fords
2007 and up GM Duramax

I have a Dodge with the 6.7L but have spent almost $1500. getting rid of the stuff so the truck runs much better and much better fuel mileage. Also have had the 6.4 Ford that had turbo trouble and DPF being plugged up.

I have not owed a new Duramax with the DPF stuff, so I can not speak for them.

So, back to your question, YES the F-450 does tow well but I would buy the 2005 C-4500 and there is a good chance it will have air ride rear susp.
Ford warranty is not really that good, just like Dodge. They are trying everything they can to void the warranty on these trucks as far as engine warranty goes. I have seen dealers down here trying to void a warranty because of bad fuel!

Location: Colorado
I would also stay clear of anything with the particulate filter(DPF). I'm not hearing good things about anything, big or small, with the DPF. And just wait till the next round- the 2010 engines and urea, aka Diesel Emission Fluid!

Thanks for the info. I ran car fax on the 05, C4500 and the only thing that stood out was it was sold to an auction. It has 47K miles on it, which I know is not bad for a diesel. I may make the haul and test drive it.

I live in PA the truck is in Iowa
