I was reading about different meds the other day and got confused about how receptor agonists and antagonists actually work. Funny enough, I first came across those terms when my cousin was trying to explain why some supplements gave him energy while others kind of blocked effects. I get that one activates something and the other blocks it, but can anyone explain in simple words what the real difference is?

Yeah, I’ve run into the same confusion before. Basically, agonists mimic natural signals and “turn on” the receptor, while antagonists block the receptor so it doesn’t react. When I was learning about growth hormones, I found a clear explanation on hgh world
. It helped me understand why some meds made me feel more alert, while others just kept things calm.
