we have found that our 2003 dodge 2500 turbo diesel is abit undersized, so we are shopping for the best 1 ton for hauling an Exiss 3 horse/LQ. We estimate about 12000 to 13000 lbs towing around some hills in Idaho.
I love our Dodge but heard that EPA has wrecked the mileage on the new ones. We want better power/shifting and braking. The salesman at Ford said we wouldn't need airbags for truck squat if we bought the 2011, and that the mileage is much better with the urea additive. Any thoughts?

YES, the FORD GUY is a retard!

Before you waste your time and money buying a new Ford, I would go rent one for a week then make up your mind. I would run like hell from the 2010 Ford with a 6.4 motor. All trucks 2007.5 and newer have some type of emmis crap on them to reduce fuel mileage. Us mine for example. It is an 07.5 Dodge ram 3500 with the 6.7 engine, bone stock I would only get 13 unloaded and 10 or so loaded, after about 1000.00 worth of goodies I now get 13+ loaded and getting just over 17 unloaded with LOTS of power!

My opinion if you like your truck I would think about installing something like FIRESTONE airbags under the rear and keep on driving it.

You can go to www.powerstroke.org and do some research on the new 6.7L powerstroke before hand to see what types of problems they are having.

So far with the big trucks(semi's), we're not seeing the improved fuel mileage with urea (DEF) that the manufacturers were expecting. International is the only manufacturer that doesn't need to go the urea route to comply with the 2010 emission requirements. AS HTB said, anything with an engine built after Jan 1, 2007 will have a particulate filter, and engines built after Jan 2010 will require DEF. Personally, I'd stay with something that doesn't have either one of those. You'll sure see a difference going to a dual rear wheel truck, though.
