I am thinking of buying a ford f250 super duty. 6.0 turbo diesel. Low miles 50,000. Most options available including leather. Alum wheels. front grill. Truck looks great and seams to have been well cared for. It was used to tow a bumper pull rv. When he wasn't pulling the RV he did not drive it. Price 16,000. Blue book is 17,500. Any thoughts about the deal and/or truck itself.

Is a regular cab, super cab, or crew cab? That will affect the value quite a bit. Also, 2 wheel drive or 4WD? Here in Colorado not having 4WD really decreases the value of a pickup. I haven't had a 6.0 liter- can't help you there. It means a lot if it's been well cared for, though. Good luck!

Need MORE details. If the blue book is 17,500 and they want 16-k I would say it is too high! The books are great selling tools, but bad for buying!
I am a dealer and would love to sell trucks by the book. Like right now I have a 2003 Ford F-350 4x4 with a 6.0 powerstroke, auto with high miles and the blue book show around a 11-k value. I have it listed here local for $7500.00

Just something to think about but the 03 Fords have a terrible reputation. I know many will tell you that its only the early ones, but lets be honest if you are aware that a particular year model truck had a problem, then your likely to stray away from it altogether. In my opinion this sends the value of the truck down a good bit.
Again I know many will tell you "oh don't worry about it," but what about if you wanted to resell it. I'm in the market right now and wont even consider an 03 model simply because of the reputation and I know i'm not the only one that feels that way.

We own a 2003, however it is an F350 7.3. We have around 200K miles on it. It has been a dream. Get's good mileage and no problems at all. I'd buy another one of these anyday.

I am in the used car buisness and deal mainly DIESEL trucks! Since learning the problems of the 03 to 07 6.0 powerstroke engines, I would buy one in a heart beat! The main issues with them is the egr cooler. I can't tell you how many I have bought down here that people traded off cause the dealer was trying to rape them on repairs. Telling the customer that the heads or head gaskets was bad. And the only problem is the egr cooler leaking. So I buy the trucks cheap, spend just under $1000. bucks and fix them right! Out of the last 3 years buying and fixing the 6.0 trucks I have had 1 that was actually a head gasket (but it was still cheap enough to fix)
The 03/04 model had a cold idle problem that can be fixed with a simple re-flash from the Ford dealer for under $100. (if out of warranty)
The egr cooler problem is solved buy installing a egr delete kit, therefor you will NEVER have the problem again.....
But to each his own, I agree the 7.3L is a better engine, but the 6.0L if fixed right can be just as good with better fuel mileage.
But what do I know?!, I still like the 6.5L Turbo diesel that GM had!

Oh I'd agree on the 7.3 being great, but the problem was with the very first 6.0's.
Not just the 1st 6.0's, ALL OF THEM!
But read my last post, they can be fixed and fixed right for under $1000.00!
The problem is people do not know how to tell the Ford dealer to tell them the truth about the problem. The dealer tells the customer that they have major problems.
Which works good for me, I end up buying the as trade in's cheap!

Hogtownboss, that's good info to have about the 6 liter. After you do that are you getting quite a few trouble free miles out of these trucks? In the next year or so, I'll be making a decision on the best way to replace my 7.3. Right now I'm leaning towards a factory reman when it's time, but a newer model and the automatic behind the 6.0 is attractive also.

So far the ones that I have had fixed and are in my area, they are ALL still running great! Myself I have fixed an 04 F-350 4x4 with 202-k miles and I sold this truck to a friend who is still driving it trouble free with 267-k to date! We have installed a S&B Intake kit, 4" exhaust system and a TS performance chip that he runs on 75hp all the time..... This truck we did the egr cooler and went ahead and did the oil cooler at the same time since we was going to add horse power to it with that many miles.
